Am Englischen Garten - Living with natural flair

Imagine you are strolling from the boulevard Unter Linden across the Aspel. The diagonal path crosses the residential quarter and leads directly to Cologne. On the left hand side a generously-sized park emerges with circular paths, a wide and naturally laid out meadow and groups of trees – just in the style of the English garden.

Modern building forms, based on the Bauhaus style, provide a harmonious connection with the curved lines of the paths and the planting of the quarter’s centrally situated parks, which are designed according to the model of the English landscape garden. In the 18th century, the English landscape park succeeded the symmetrically-designed French Baroque garden, in which nature had been forced into clear shapes.

The design idiom of the English parks plays with the natural growth, the colour and the structure of plants, which often come from all over the world and are highlighted here, and relates them to each other. This relating to one another is also mirrored in the Veedel Am Englischen Garten. The white of the houses, the building forms, the design of the gardens are all, despite their individual characters, related to each other and create, with the green of the parks and the variety of plants, together with the people who live here, a harmonious whole.
